Axis Assassin (EA Gatefold Collection)

From $18.90

Axis Assassin is a video game developed by John Field and published by Electronic Arts in 1983. The game is notable for its fast-paced action and is often compared to Atari’s classic arcade game Tempest.

The cover art of Axis Assassin, photographed by Terry Heffernan, features a striking and somewhat minimalist approach compared to many video game covers of the era, which typically favoured elaborate illustrations. The photograph focuses on a close-up of a flight stick, grasped by a hand wearing black leather gloves.

The game is one of the five initial releases from Electronic Arts. Author John Field is included in the two-page “We See Farther” magazine ad from 1983 that positioned EA’s game developers as “rock stars.” Field also wrote The Last Gladiator for Electronic Arts, which was published the same year as Axis Assassin.
